Voice of the Trees is an environmental art project which brought together Samarkand's artistic community and young people to engage with the city's environmental context. Through poetry, performance, music and visual art, participants responded to current pressing issues such as tree felling and the effects of increasing urbanisation in Uzbekistan.
Under the supervision of three curators, Ashot Danielyan, Nathan Jeffers and Kristina Cranfeld participants attended carefully crafted lectures, workshops and master classes which explored how visual storytelling, poetry and music can question and contribute to the pressing environmental dilemmas. An intensive creative lab and the final exhibition were held at the Art Station residency at the Silk Road International University of Tourism in Samarkand.
